Teaching

Teaching Focus

For medical students, members of the chair convey the basic principles of chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology with a main focus in the first three semesters. An important principle of the teaching concept is the close integration with the teaching content of physiology, anatomy and medical psychology as well as the various clinical subjects starting from the first semester. At the same time, it is important to us that our students acquire a solid and coherent basic knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology which they can profitably use and develop in their active professional life. Our teaching concept is completed by various online seminars and exercises that enable students to supplement and deepen their knowledge. This online teaching content is developed in collaboration with Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (vhb). The Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, thus, significantly contributes to the teaching performance and development of the first Bavarian model medical programme.

For students of midwifery science, the chair offers an introduction to the chemistry of the most important biomolecules and the molecular structure of the cell as well as the most important biochemical and molecular biological processes in the human body. Similar to the concept in the model medical programme, the content is also closely linked to the other basic sciences, practical applications and is supplemented by online teaching.

As part of the scientific project during the 10th semester, students have the opportunity to work independently on research topics at the Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The project minimally involves 225 working hours involves and takes place in our laboratories in Garchingnear Munich. It ends with a written report and an oral presentation as part of the institutes seminar. To discuss possible topics, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Courses in Midwifery Sciences (B.Sc.)

For students of midwifery sciences (B.Sc.), the chair teaches basics in chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology. In seminars and online exercises in the first semester, we aim to teach solid, fundamental scientific knowledge interconnecting practical and theoretical aspects.

Detailed information on course contents, learning objectives as well as preparation and follow-up for the biochemistry courses part of the programme Midwifery (B.Sc.) is given on the platform moodle.

Please note: Due to legal requirements, teaching is in German language only.
