Applying with a foreign higher education entrance qualification
Welcome to our webpage for international student applicants!
We are delighted that you are interested in studying at our university and will gradly support you on your way. The following information is relevant if you would like to apply with
> a foreign school or university certificate,
> an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma,
> the German International Abitur, or
> if you need to attend the preparatory college (Studienkolleg) or after having passed the assessment examination (Feststellungsprüfung) at a preparatory college.
To successfully apply, please take note of the following information about the necessary documents, language skills, as well as recognition of your certificates. Our team is available at any time to answer any questions and will gladly accompany you through the application process.
If you are applying for the following degree programmes, you will find all the information you need under the corresponding links:
- Erasmus+/WeltWeit/other exchange programmes (This applies to applicants who are enrolled at a foreign university and would like to study at the University of Augsburg for only one or two semesters.)
- Part-time degree programmes for working professionals
- Music (Bachelor/Master of Music)
- Master’s degree programmes
- Human Medicine - Augsburg Competency-Based Medical Program
- Midwifery
- German Law for International Law Graduates (Postgraduate studies) LL.M.

If you would like to apply for a bachelor’s degree programme, a state examination or mag.theol., please please note the following application steps and information:

officially certified copies of your certificates (in hard copy!)

preliminary review documentation (VPD) for the University of Augsburg (apply early, as 6-8 weeks processing time at uni-assist!!)

where necessary, confirmation of German language skills (also applies to German nationals!)

APS certificate (only for certificates from India, China and Vietnam)

a copy of your passport

a copy of your CV

Applications for degree programmes with restricted admission (Numerus Clausus NC, only higher semesters can be selected in the summer semester) or that involve an aptitude assessment process or test ( Eignungsfeststellungsverfahren) must be submitted with all the necessary documentation by the 15th of January 2026.

For NC degree programmes, you have to register with HOCHSCHULSTART before submitting the online application in our online portal.

If you need to attend a preparatory college (Studienkolleg), apply by the 15th of January for the degree programme you plan to study and submit evidence of German language skills at B2 level. Refugees can apply for one of the preparatory courses.

If you need to take the DSH exam, apply by the 15th of January for the degree programme that you plan to study and submit evidence of German language skills at the level required by the degree programme. This means that you need to submit evidence of B1 level German language skills if B2 level is required or B2 level language skills if C1 level is required. If you receive admission, register for the DSH exam by the deadline stated on the letter of admission.
- Applications for open admission degree programmes (not NC) without an aptitude assessment process or test ( Eignungsfeststellungsverfahren) can be submitted up until the middle of March 2026 at the latest, where applicants already have evidence of sufficient German language skills required by the degree programme and do not need to attend a preparatory college (Studienkolleg).
