The imwk is led by a collegial management team (board of directors), which oversees and coordinates all ongoing teaching and departmental operations. The board of directors consists of the professors of the department and a representative of the academic staff. The director is currently Prof. Dr. Helena Bilandzic, her deputy director is Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Wimmer.

The board of directors decides on matters concerning the institute as a whole or its degree programs. This includes the further development of study programs and teaching profiles, as well as the general scientific focus of the imwk.
