Knowledge transfer for society, industry and science

The Application Center for Materials and Environmental Research (AMU) was founded in 2000 on the initiative of professors of the Institute of Physics and with the support of the Free State of Bavaria. Its partners include research institutes, schools, educational institutions, chambers of commerce, associations, and about 200 companies from a wide range of industries.

The main objective of the AMU is to make the know-how of the Institutes of Physics (IfP) and Materials Resource Management (MRM) as well as other institutes of the University of Augsburg from the mathematical-scientific-technical field available to society, especially to industry. The expansion and maintenance of this bidirectional knowledge transfer is intended to expand the competence of the institutes and their expertise in application-relevant areas and to strengthen the partners from society and industry. In order to comprehensively achieve these goals, the AMU is divided into the two scientific areas "Contract Analytics and Engineering (AAE) & Projects" and "STEM_Education (MINT_Bildung)". The activities focus on cooperation with industry, ensuring the regional promotion of young STEM talents, and establishing efficient and innovative transfer structures. The third area is the transfer office, which focuses on inventor consulting and patents.

The AMU's tasks include relieving scientists of non-specialist tasks by supporting them in the planning and execution of projects with industrial participation. Furthermore, the equipment of the institutes and the AMU is made available to industrial partners. The AMU is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the student laboratories at the University of Augsburg.
