From September 6-8, 2023 Simone Müller and Livia Cahn organized the international workshop "Misplacing Matter.

Vertical Practices and (Hi)Stories of Space and Power" at the Environmental Science Center at the University of Augsburg. The workshop hosted an interdisciplinary group of scholars interested in the flows, exchanges, and movements in “the thin skin of the living earth” (the zone) and the urgency to consider the lasting, devastating effects of humans on the environment. Aim of this workshop was to unseat the power that forges the movement of matter across the imagined dividing line of above and below ground and across time.
