Competency Standards for Health Professionals on Disability-Inclusion (INCLUDE)
Background
The WHO Global Report on Health Equity for Persons with Disabilities demonstrates that persons with disabilities experience health inequities due to health system barriers amongst other factors. Strengthening health professionals (HPs) to adequately address the human rights and needs of people with disabilities is one strategic entry point into health systems.
Methods
This study by the Chair of Inclusive Health Care at the University of Augsburg and the University Hospital of Augsburg, in cooperation with the Disability Unit at WHO, will develop global competency standards on disability-inclusion for health professionals. To achieve this goal, a multi-stage mixed-methods approach was chosen, consisting of a scoping review, key informant interviews, and a consensus process. In developing these competencies, we are working continuously with a working group that involves experts from various disciplines and geographical regions, as well as with persons with disabilities.
