About ISLA

For more than 35 years, the 1986 founded ISLA Institute of Iberian and Latin American Studies has been connecting and promoting in an interdisciplinary way the various research, international learning-teaching projects, and transfer regarding the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas (with consideration of Creole and Lusophone African Cultures and Societies) at the University of Augsburg. Along with individual and collective research projects and the dedicated promotion of young researchers ('Junges ISLA'), the Institute’s activities and channels include the established ' Mesa Redonda' publication series, the ‘Augsburg University Prize for Iberian and Latin American Studies’ as well as the transdisciplinary 'Culturas Urbanas' Working Group, the international 'HORIZONTES Film Studies Network', the transatlantic 'CultuRES of Resilience Research Network', & cet. (see sections). Since 2021, the ISLA participates also in the International Doctorate Program " Rethinking Environment" (Elite Network of Bavaria); since 2023, in the research and transfer-oriented " Ibero-Romance Cultural Studies" (MA); and since 2024, in the " Urban Cultures" (MA) international joint study program.
