For more than 35 years, the ISLA Institute of Iberian and Latin American Studies has been connecting and promoting in an interdisciplinary way the various research and learning-teaching projects regarding the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas (with consideration of Creole and Lusophone African Cultures and Societies) at the University of Augsburg. Along with individual and collective research projects and the dedicated promotion of young researchers ('Junges ISLA'), the Institute’s activities and channels include the established ' Mesa Redonda' publication series, the international ‘Augsburg University Prize for Iberian and Latin American Studies’ as well as recently the transatlantic 'HORIZONTES Film Studies Network', the transdisciplinary 'Culturas Urbanas' Working Group, & cet. (see sections). Since 2023 the ISLA participates also in the research-oriented Master Program " Ibero-Romance Cultural Studies" at the University of Augsburg.
