Im MNTF-Graduiertenzentrum werden Onboarding und Vernetzung von Praedocs sowie Postdocs mit regelmäßigen Kickoff-Veranstaltungen, Klausurtagungen und Stammtischen sowie externe wissenschaftsorientierte Kurse angeboten. Ferner können projektbasierte Sachmittel als Seed Funding beantragt werden. Es wird ein Junior Board aus je 3 Praedocs und Postdocs gewählt, das informiert, koordiniert und als Ansprechpartner fungiert. Es nimmt Anträge entgegen und leitet sie zur Genehmigung an ein Senior Board mit 3 profossoralen Mitgliedern der Fakultät weiter. Die Angebote sollen niederschwellig zugänglich sein und sind nicht Teil von Promotions- oder Habilitationsverfahren.

A) Onboarding und Vernetzung für Praedocs und Postdocs der MNTF

A1) Für Praedocs und Postdocs: Kickoff-Veranstaltung (1x im Frühjahr ab 2022)

• Wahl des Junior Boards
• Bildung von Organisationsteams für Planung der Praedoc-Klausurtagung (A2)
• Planung der Postdoc-Stammtische (A3)
• Planung weiterer Aktivitäten (A4, A5)

A2) Praedoc-Klausurtagung mit wissenschaftlichem Thema (1x im Herbst ab 2022)

• 3 Tage off-site (ggf. mit Eigenbeteiligung der Teilnehmenden), alternativ 2 Tage in Hörsaal
• Science-Slam-Kurzvorträge als Icebreaker
• Externe/interne Vortragende, ggf. wissenschaftliche Hands-On-Workshops
• je nach Thema auch z.B. für FAI/Med.Fak.-Promovierende geeignet

• ca. alle 2-3 Monate: informeller Stammtisch, ggf. in fachaffinen Gruppen
• Austausch u.a. zu Übergang von Postdoc zur eigenen Arbeitsgruppe, Karriereschritte, Einstieg in Akademische Selbstverwaltung, …

A4) Lokale Aktivitäten für Praedocs und Postdocs

• Vernetzung, regelmäßige Treffen, wissenschaftliches Speed-Dating
• Methodenkurse, Gastdozenturen, fachspezifische Postgraduate Lectures exzellenter externer Wissenschaftler:innen, ggf. mit eigenen Posterpräsentationen
• inneruniversitäre Labortouren, Industriebesuche, Transferaktivitäten in die Wirtschaft, Job-Talks, Exit-Strategien, …
• bei Interesse Vermittlung von Mentor:innen
• Arbeitsgruppe für MNTF-Intranet-Auftritt mit Informationen und Berichten

A5) Externes Kursprogramm

• MNTF-spezifische externe Kurse, u.a. zu Datenmanagement, Wissenschaftsvermarktung, Karriereplanung, Genderaspekten, Drittmittelantragstellung, Programmierkenntnis-Erweiterungsstrategien, …
• Kurse/Veranstaltungen stehen Praedocs und Postdocs offen, Teilnahme erfordert einfachen Antrag und Zustimmung des/der Betreuer:in
• die ggf. erforderliche Auswahlentscheidung erfolgt durch Senior Board bzw. kann an professorales Mitglied der MNTF delegiert werden

B) Seed Funding

• Förderung wissenschaftlich eigenständiger Projekte (bis 1.000 € Sachmittel)
• Antrag von Vorgesetzten zu genehmigen, geht über Junior Board an Senior Board
• Senior Board kann Gutachten einholen, ggf. externe
• Projekt muss unabhängig von Dissertation/Habilitation bzw. deren Thema sein
• im Antrag muss begründet werden, warum drittmittelbasiertes Seed Funding (WiR, PiA, ...) an der Universität für das Projekt nicht in Frage kommt, und ggf. bereits erhaltenes Seed Funding muss angegeben werden
• Berichte über Anträge und Ergebnisse an Junior Board, Senior Board, bei Kickoff-Meeting/Klausurtagung ggf. inneruniversitäre Vermittlung zu AMU, Erfinderberatung, StartHub-Gründungszentrum, uni-t-Transferstelle

Qualifizierungskonzept und Zulassungsbedingungen

• Alle vom MNTF-Graduiertenzentrum angebotenen Qualifizierungen ist optional und nicht Teil von Promotions- oder Habilitationsverfahren. Es gibt kein separates Aufnahmeverfahren. Es werden keine Zertifikate o.ä. ausgestellt.

• Praedocs und Postdocs können zunächst an einem der jährlichen Kickoff-Meetings und/oder der Klausurtagung teilnehmen. Dort werden die genannten weiteren Aktivitäten geplant, die so im Intranet dokumentiert werden, dass ein Einstieg jederzeit möglich ist.

• Praedoc-Aktivitäten stehen als MNTF-Promovierende registrierten Personen offen, Postdoc-Aktivitäten an der MNTF als wissenschaftliches Personal beschäftigten promovierten Personen. Personen der jeweils anderen Gruppe oder weitere Personen können bei Bedarf zu einzelnen Aktivitäten zugelassen werden.

Strukturen und Qualitätssicherung

• Über bewilligte Anträge und abgeschlossene Aktivitäten soll den Institutsleitungs- und Fakultätsratssitzungen berichtet werden, auch in Form eines Jahresberichts.

• Beim Kickoff-Meeting wird ein Junior Board bestehend aus 3 Praedocs und 3 Postdocs von den jeweiligen Gruppen für zwei Jahre gewählt, aus diesen je ein:e Sprecher:in der jeweiligen Gruppe. Es sollen alle drei MNTF-Institute im Junior Board vertreten sein.

• Anträge für MNTF-spezifische als auf zentrale GZ-Aktivitäten werden über das Junior Board an das Senior Board (bestehend aus 3 profossoralen Mitgliedern der Fakultät) zur Genehmigung weitergeleitet. Das Junior Board berät Antragstellende und dokumentiert intern die genehmigten und abgeschlossenen Aktivitäten. Es fungiert als Ansprechpartner für die Mitglieder der Fakultät.

• Die Qualitätssicherung und Anpassung des externen Kursprogramms sowie eine etwaige Auswahlentscheidung übernimmt das Senior Board, das diese Aufgaben an professorale MNTF-Mitglieder delegieren kann.

• Alle Veranstaltungen sollen von den Teilnehmenden online evaluiert werden. Das Junior Board sammelt die Evaluationen und berichtet bei der nächsten Kickoff-Veranstaltung.

Langfristiger Mehrwert:

• Onboarding- und Vernetzungsangebote werden von Praedocs und Postdocs gewünscht. Solche Maßnahmen gibt es in anderen Fakultäten sowie an anderen Universitäten bereits, wo sie sehr nützlich sind.
• Die Vernetzung zwischen Arbeitsgruppen und zwischen MNTF-Instituten wird auch zu neuen Kooperationen führen und neue Forschungsideen generieren.
• Die Struktur des Junior Boards soll die Kontinuität der Aktivitäten gewährleisten.

Öffnung von Angeboten für andere Fakultäten und weitere Kooperationen 

• Bei wissenschaftlichen Veranstaltungen können Praedocs und Postdocs fachlich benachbarter Fakultäten wie FAI oder Med.Fak. angesprochen werden und teilnehmen, wofür z.B. Themen aus den Bereichen Materialforschung, Maschinelles Lernen, Biophysik, Statistik, Modellierung naheliegen.
• Ebenso soll an der MNTF über relevante GZ-Aktivitäten anderer Fakultäten informiert werden.

The MNTF Graduate Center will help with the onboarding process as well as networking of Praedocs and Postdocs with yearly kickoff events, retreat meetings, and regulars' tables, as well as external science-related courses. Furthermore these young scientists can apply for financial support for scientific and soft-skill activities as well as seed funding. An elected Junior Board, consisting of 3 Praedocs and 3 Postdocs, will help with information and coordination and serve as a point of contact. Applications are submitted to the Junior Board and then sent along to the Senior Board, which consists of 3 professors of MNTF, for review and decisions. All activities in the MNTF Graduate Center are optional and not part of the Ph.D. or Habilitation programmes.

• 3 day off-site meeting (possibly with co-payment by participants), alternatively 2 days on campus
• short talks / science slam as icebreaker
• external and internal speakers, possibly hands-on scientific courses
• possibly suitable for Praedocs from FAI or Med.Fak., depending on the topic
• scientific and/or soft-skill training (e.g., for academic writing, scientific presentations, Bachelor/Master thesis supervising roles, scientific commuincation, &hellip)
• reports regarding completed activities, organisation of future events

A3) Regular's table for Postdocs (after first kickoff event)

• open to all Postdocs employed at MNTF
• intended in particular for current or future research group leaders
• in approx. 2-3 months interval, informal regular's tabel, possibly split according to research areas
• exchange regarding, e.g., transition to having your own research group, career planning, participation in academic committees, &hellip

A4) Local activities for Praedocs and Postdocs

• networking, recurring meetings, scientific speed dating
• methodogical courses, guest lecturers, scientific postgraduate lectures by excellent external scientists, possibly with poster session
• lab tours across the university, industry visits, knowledge transfer with industry, job talks, strategies for leaving academia, &hellip
• finding mentors, if desired
• working group for maintenance of an intranet page with informationen und reports

A5) External courses

• MNTF-specific courses, e.g., on data management, scientific marketing, career planning, gender-related topics, third-party funding applications, coding skills improvement strategies, &hellip
• courses and events are open to Praedocs und Postdocs, participation requires simple application and approval by supervisor
• the Senior Board will decide in case of overbooking

B) Seed Funding

• support for independent scientific projects (direct costs up tp 1.000 €)
• application must be apprved by supervisor, subitted to Junior Board and passed on to Senior Board
• Senior Board may solicit (possibly external) reviews
• project should be independent of dissertation/habilitation and their topics
• applicatin must explain ineligibility for orther third-party seed funding at the university (WiR, PiA, &hellip) ans state previously obtained seed funding
• applications and results are to be reported to Junior Board and Senior Board and at kickoff meetings; referral to relevant university agencies: AMU, inventors' center, StartHub (founders' center), uni-t (transfer center)

Qualification Concept and Prerequisites

• All additional qualifications that are offered by the MNTF Graduate Center are optional and not part of Ph.D. or Habilitation programmes. No separate membership is required. No certificitates etc. will be issued.

• Praedocs und Postdocs may first participate in the annual kickoff and/or off-site meetings. There further activities will be planned and then listed on the intranet website to allow participation also at a later stage..

• Praedoc activities are open to Ph.D. candidates that have registered this status with MNTF. Postdoc activities are open to scientific personnel at MNTF with completed doctorate. People from each group may be admitted to the other for certain activities.

Structure and Quality Assurance

• Approved applications and completed activities should be reported to the institute and faculty council meetings, also in the form of an annual report.

• At the first kickoff meeting a Junior Board, consisting of 3 Praedocs and 3 Postdocs, will be elected for a period of years, with all three institutes of MNTF represented, as well as two spokespersons, one from each section of the board.

• Applications for MNTF-specific or central Graduate Center activities are submitted via the Junior Board to the Senior Board (consisting of 3 Professors from MNTF) for approval. The Junior Board will advise applicants, keep track of approved and completed activities, and serve point of contact for members of MNTF.

• Quality assurance, adjustments to the external course program, and decisions in case of overbooking will be made by the Senior Board or delegated by it to other MNTF professors.

• Participants should give online feedback on completed activities. The Junior Board will collect these evaluations and present them at the next kickoff meeting.

Long-term Benefits

• Onboarding processes and networking opportunities have been requested by Praedocs und Postdocs. They are available at other faculties and universities, where they have proven to be very useful.
• Networking among research groups and among the institutes of MNTF will also generate new collaborations and research ideas.
• The structure of the Junior Boards is intended to facilitate proposals for activities.

Extension to other faculties and further collaborations

• Scientific events may be open to Praedocs und Postdocs af related faculties (such as Faculty of Applied Informatics or Faculty of Medicine), for example regarding topics from Materials Science, Machine Learning, Biological Physics, Statistics, Modelling
• In a similar fashion young scientists at MNTF should receive information regarding similar graduate activities in other faculties.
