Curriculum Vitae Publikationen

Als Umwelt- und Globalhistorikerin mit Schwerpunkten auf Theorie und Methode, sowie Technik, Wirtschaft und Infrastruktur im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert arbeite ich an der Schnittstelle zwischen dem Fach Geschichte und dem inter- und transdisziplinären Feld der Environmental Humanities. Meine Forschungsinteressen reichen von asphaltierten Straßen als Infrastrukturen des Anthropozäns bis zum internationalen Handel mit gefährlichen Abfallstoffen und von Feuchtgebieten als nicht-binären Vorstellungswelten und Aktionsräumen bis zu Vertikalität als analytischem Konzept für die Umweltgeschichte. In meiner Lehre nutze ich auch Gehen als Methode und erforsche gleichzeitig den Nutzen dieser Methode für eine historische Betrachtung sich wandelnder Mensch-Umweltbeziehungen.

Meine Forschung wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen ausgezeichnet, darunter dem Harold & Margaret Sprout Award of the International Studies Association (ISA) 2025 und dem Hagley Prize der Business History Conference (BHC) und des Hagley Museum and Library, ebenfalls 2025 für mein Buch „The Toxic Ship“. Ich erhielt Förderung durch diverse nationale und internationale Institutionen und Geldgeber, unter anderem von den Smithsonian Institutions (USA), dem Science History Institute (USA), dem Deutschen Historischen Institut in Washington D.C., der University of Pennsylvania, dem Elitenetzwerk Bayern und der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. Ich bin gewähltes Mitglied der Agder Society of Science and Letters, Norwegen wie auch Henriette Herz Scout der Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. Ich bin auch wissenschaftliche Herausgeberin der Serie „Ecology and History“bei Ohio University Press.

Meine Arbeit verortet sich interdisziplinär an der Schnittstelle zwischen Umweltgeschichte und den Environmental Humanities. Ich bin Sprecherin des Internationalen Doktorierendenkollegs Um(Welt)Denken. Die Environmental Humanities und die ökologische Transformation der Gesellschaft, gefördert vom Elitenetzwerk Bayern (2021-2025). Internetseite IDK Rethinking Environment

Im Rahmen der Netzwerkuniversität Augsburg bin ich Mitglied am Wissenschaftszentrum Umwelt (WZU) und dem Zentrum für Klimaresilienz, sowie Mitglied im Direktorium des Instituts für europäische Kulturgeschichte (IEK), wo auch das Netzwerk Umweltgeschichte an der Universität Augsburg verortet ist.

Bevor ich 2023 an die Universität Augsburg kam, war ich an der Universität München (LMU), der Universität Freiburg und der Freien Universität Berlin tätig. Von 2016 bis 2023 war ich als PI und Projektleiter der DFG-Emmy-Noether-Forschungsgruppe „Hazardous Travels.
