Besim Can ZIRH is an Assistant Professor of Social Anthropology at the Department of Sociology, Middle East Technical University (Ankara) where he also received his BA degree in Sociology in 2002 and his MSc degree in Political Science in 2005. He received his PhD degree in Social Anthropology from University College London in 2012. His doctoral thesis was based on a multi-sited ethnographic study focusing the transnational migratory networks on Alevis between Turkey and Europe (Germany, Norway and the UK). He was a visiting research at Centre on Migration Citizenship and Development (COMCAD) – Bielefeld University during the 2021-22 academic year for his sabbatical research on the right for external-voting and Turkish diaspora in Germany
