The article "The Wirecard Accounting Scandal in Germany, and How the Financial Industry Failed to Spot It" has been published in the current issue 3/2021 of the "The International Lawyer".
The first insolvency of a company listed on the German DAX index has had an enormous impact. In his article Professor Möllers aims to demonstrate why there has been a failure of the entire financial industry if not a single one of the players intervene, even though all market participants are aware of the allegations of inaccurate accounting. The causes lie in behavioural finance, but also the inadequate state of German and European capital markets law.

These days Germany's listed companies have a high risk to become victims of short selling attacks by misleading financial analyses. Companies and supervision have so far had little to counter that. The article deals with deficits in the area of standardisation and enforcement of law and approaches solutions. It has been published in "The International Lawyer", a triannual publication of the American Bar Association's Section of International Law in cooperation with SMU Dedman School of Law, Dallas, Texas.

Frau Professorin Kerstin Steiner wurde von Herrn Professor Dr. Thomas M.J. Möllers an der Universität Augsburg empfangen. Sie ist an der University of Melbourne Senior Associate im Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society (CILIS) und Partnerin im Asian Law Centre (ALC). Außerdem ist sie im Beratungsausschuss der Philippine International Studies Organization (PHISO). Sie hat bereits eine Vielzahl von internationalen Positionen innegehabt, so zum Beispiel an der University of Malaya und dem Centre for Socio-legal Studies der Oxford University (...).

Von 6. bis 9. Juni 2019 fand auf der Fraueninsel im Chiemsee die bereits dritte gemeinsame Konferenz zwischen den juristischen Fakultäten der Universitäten Augsburg und Johannesburg (Südafrika) statt. 15 Johannesburger und zehn Augsburger Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer reisten an, um aktuelle Fragen aus allen Rechtsgebieten rund um das Thema Legal Certainty and Fundamental Rights zu diskutieren, unterschiedliche Sichtweisen auszutauschen und im Sinne einer gegenseitigen Befruchtung der Rechtssysteme Lösungen und Anregungen zur Verbesserung der beiden Rechtsordnungen zu finden (...).

Im April 2019 besuchte Prof. Dr. Thomas M.J. Möllers die University of Stellenbosch in Südafrika. Zunächst hielt er zwei Vorträge an der juristischen Fakultät: „Short Sell Attacks and Illegal Financial Reports“ und „The Volkswagen Diesel Scandal – Legal enforcement worldwide“. Ein dritter Vortrag führte ihn an die wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät: „Private Enforcement of EU Competition Law after the Directive 2014/104/EU“. Zudem traf Prof. Möllers am letzten Tag seines Aufenthalts Prof. Dr. Philip Sutherland und Prof. Dr. Karin Calitz.

Im Januar und Februar 2019 hielt sich Prof. Dr. Thomas M.J. Möllers für einen Forschungsaufenthalt in Australien auf. An der La Trobe University in Melbourne hielt Prof. Dr. Möllers zwei Vorträge. Zum einen widmete er sich dem Thema „Digitalization – Market Abuse by Short Sell Attacks and Illegal Research Reports“. Zum anderen hielt er einen Vortrag zum Thema „Legal Reasoning: How Lawyers are Thinking: Working with Principles“. An der University of Sydney hielt Prof. Dr. Möllers im Rahmen der Law & Business Downtown Seminars einen Vortrag zum Thema „The Volkswagen emission scandal – German, European and US-American implications“.

Am Donnerstag, den 5. Juli 2018, hielt Blake D. Morant, Dekan und Robert Kramer Forschungsprofessor der GW Law School einen Vortrag zu den Ausschreitungen in Charlottesville, die sich im August letzten Jahres ereignet haben. Dean Morant hat sich in seinem Vortrag mit dem Thema Menschenrechte und dem grundlegendem Recht auf Meinungsfreiheit im Rahmen der Gewalt in Charlottesville auseinandergesetzt.

Herr Professor Dr. Thomas M.J. Möllers hat am 28.5.2015 beim Annual Banking Law Update 2015 (ABLU) in Johannesburg einen Vortrag zum Thema „Developments in the implementation of the European MiFiD II Directive“ gehalten. Das ABLU ist eine etablierte südafrikanische Veranstaltung zum Gesellschafts- und Kapitalmarktrecht, die seit 1978 stattfindet. Organisator ist das Centre for Banking Law der University of Johannesburg.

Als Höhepunkt des Summer Program fand vom 12. bis 14. Juli das englischsprachige "Joint Seminar on Capital Market Law and Legal Methodology" auf der Insel Frauenchiemsee teil. Das Seminar wird seit vielen Jahren gemeinsam von Prof. Dr.Thomas M.J. Möllers und Prof. Peter Wendel (Pepperdine University, USA) organisiert.

Im Rahmen des Summer Program werden englischsprachige Veranstaltungen vor allem für Studierende der nordamerikanischen Partneruniversitäten der Juristischen Fakultät angeboten.
